Why do people try to cover the fact that she smokes?

I realize that this is an old post...but in interviews with her husband he explains her raspy voice and why it's gotten worse. He is in a band and after they met she started going to more and more of his shows and always yells and screams (in support of course) of the band. She often gets yelled at the next day at work for destroying her voice. That's why you may notice the raspy voice is sometimes worse than at other times.

I like how non-smokers are always the first to be able to spot all of the possible flaws and character flaws as well of a possible smoker.
